Break It. Episode 4: Break It For Good

July 17, 2018

Joshua and Kerrie invite you to join them in their conversations about living without the things that chain and enslave the mind, heart, and soul in the Break It series.

The four-episode series looks at the things that may seem like "no big deal" but will  negatively impact the way we manage what's before us.  It takes intention and work to not only be aware of an unhealthy life-pattern but to break it.

  • It happened in the ancient days.
  • It happens now.
  • It’s humanity’s story.

Individuals, families, and organizations are eventually chained and enslaved from giving space to what does not belong in the mind, heart, and soul.

  • It’s time to break it.

Resource: Exodus 14.

Episodes: 1. Break It.  2.  Break It Off.  3.  Break It Now.  4.  Break It For Good.

Episode 4:  Break It For Good

Good in this episode is a two-dimensional belief system:

1.  Believegood can come out of the stuff that chains us down.  The struggle for freedom is real but the supernatural good of God overpowers it all.

And.

2.  Believeyou can break it for good, leaving the chains behind.

The question to ask :  Is this change good for my life and this world?

Resource: Exodus 14:29-31

But the Israelites had walked safely through the parted waters on dry ground,

and

the sea stood like a solid wall on their right and on their left.

That day the Eternal rescued Israel from the powerful grip of the Egyptians,

and

Israel watched the corpses of the Egyptians wash upon the shore.

When Israel witnessed the incredible power that the Eternal used to defeat the Egyptians,

the people were struck with fear of Him,

and they trusted in Him and also in Moses, His servant (Voice).

  1. God desires for you to live in the "good" of life. Receive it.
  2. God gives you the ability to break it for good, never needing to be chained by it again. Receive it.
  3. God brings others into your life for resources and accountability.  Receive it.
  4. God has planned for you to live free. Receive it.

Break It. Episode 3: Break It Now

Episodes: 1. Break It.  2.  Break It Off.  3.  Break It Now.  4.  Break It For Good.

Episode 3:  Break It Now

It’s easy to keep living the same way, settling for "what is" rather than "what can be." Life becomes more challenging when we continue to be chained and enslaved in it all, procrastinating change.

A decision must be made to break it now.

Of course, change can be challenging and a risk of faith.  The thing is . . . God provides the way to break it now . . . and find freedom.  It takes courage to trust and  take the action to move forward.

Resource:Exodus 14: 21-22

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,

and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind

and turned it into dry land.

The waters were divided,

and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground,

with a wall of water on their right and on their left (NIV).

  1. Refuse to put off breaking free of the things that don't belong in your life.
  2. Risk it now.  Break the things that chain and own you.  It may seem too hard but it's time now.
  3. Reframe and write the story of living without being chained to whatever owns you.
  4. Receive the “new” God has for you.

Episode 2:  Break It Off

Sometimes we're comfortable with unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behavior because we become accustomed to it as our normal.  Other times, we are highly aware of the "thing" that weighs us down.

Sometimes we see someone with different circumstances in their story and want their life.  The thing is . . . from our perspective . . . their life seems so much better.

But.

Everyone must manage challenges and choose whether or not to break it.

Sometimes when we get tangled up and stuck in unhealthy living, we come to the point of knowing it's time to break it.

Resource: Exodus 14:15

"Then the Lord said to Moses,

“Why are you crying out to me?

Tell the Israelites to move on"

NIV).

  1. Remember you are a participant not a spectator in breaking off your "stuff."
  2. Look at the unhealthy things filling up "your backpack" and weighing you down.
  3. Identify the specific things weighing you down.
  4. Set your backpack down by surrendering each "thing"--breaking it off your life.

Break It. Episode 1: Break It

Episodes: 1. Break It.  2.  Break It Off.  3.  Break It Now.  4.  Break It For Good.

Episode 1:  Break It

It's a continual process to be aware of the things that enter within our individual life as well as in our family and workplace that chain and enslave us.  Sometimes we don't notice how something has become a life-pattern, constraining us from living the best life, impacting ourselves as well as others.

And, there are things in our life we avoid acknowledging.  A choice must be made to not only be aware and acknowledge what resides within, but to take action.

Our choices will either sets us free or chain and enslave not only ourselves but those we impact, taking away energy, health, and joy.

Resource:  Exodus 14:13-14

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" (NIV).

  1. Determine to live free of what does not belong.
  2. Look at the places you need guardrails around your life, including people who entrap you with negative words and behavior.
  3. Evaluate what owns you.
  4. Acknowledge what needs to be released.
